Izzy turns 6!

Well this is my second attempt at Izzy's birthday post, as the first one is somewhere lost in cyberspace- so here goes!

On July 3rd Izzy turned 6 years old! I can't believe it. It feels like she is officially a big kiddo! We had a great time celebrating her birthday this year. She loves helping with the planning of her party and talking about what we will do, which friends she will invite, and what cake she would like to have. We love the opportunity to celebrate our little girl. This is my favorite picture from her birthday party day.

Izzy - you are 6 now! You are social, friendly, out-going and smart. When I was talking to your aunt Mel about what 3 words we would use to describe our kids if we were limited to 3, I decided I would pick for you at this age independent, creative and spirited. I love what has become our weekly shopping rituals. You are so helpful and love being the grocery checker at self check as much as I did when I played store as a kiddo. We have fun and you make me laugh! You have never been a huge snuggle bug, but I love that you call me in to snuggle with you at night and you love to have your back scratched while I lay next to you. It feels like a special time that we can catch up about how your day has been and be together. We have started making bucket lists of things we want to do each month or season, and this has been really enjoyable. You seem to be excited about both big and small adventures. You love books and will often lay on your bed and read for hours. Just tonight I had to pry the "big book of facts" out of your hands and tell you "lights out" for the 5th time before you finally drifted off to sleep. Did you know that your dad had a Big Book of Facts as a kid that was his favorite? It's so fun seeing you grow and see what you are interested in! Right now you like reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, The Fairy series books, National Geographic books on animals, and other chapter books and non-fiction books on weather. You just started 1st grade and your teacher is Ms. Hunker. You are a super star at school  and were the first kid in your class to win an achievement-type award both last year and this year! We are so proud of you. We really hope that you continue to love school as you do right now. Your least favorite subject is gym class and your most favorite is art. You say you want to be an artist and illustrator and recently added a veterinarian. You love animals and small dogs are a particular favorite. You are social and have friends both at school and in the neighborhood. Amae, Sycamore, and Freya are your closest friends right now. You run around and play and create stories together, which is fun to watch. You are kind, and when I see you being kind to others it's the best feeling. Did I mention I'm so proud of you?
you and freya in the sprinkler at your party
We recently moved you into your own room, and you seem to really like it. It's usually a mess, just like your aunt mel's used to be! =) You sleep down on the bottom big bunk now with your cuddle kitty Tubbu and your beloved bunbun. I love seeing the small reminders that you are still (somewhat) little. You are still opinionated about what food you eat, and have a limited selection of food that you seem to enjoy. I wonder if that will change for you? Your favorites are anything sweet of course, yogurt, cheese sticks, hummus, cereal, crackers, pizza, beer can chicken, and pasta. Your one veggie (cough cough) is carrots and you will sometimes stomach applesauce. Although you have recently been eating my homemade spaghetti sauce -whoohoo! Sigh.....I can't say I didn't try to broaden your food horizons little one. You love to sleep in and over the summer you loved to stay up late and sleep in late. We had a great lazy laid back summer. I loved having you home. You love playing with your stuffed animals, doing art, playing with friends and reading. You love climbing at the park, and playing on the bars. You like tv too, and enjoy your PBS shows like Wild Krats and Martha Speaks.
iz on her birthday

You really wanted to celebrate your birthday with treats in your kindergarten class (since your bday is in the summer), so we made some cupcakes and you decorated them with googly eyes and mustaches for your class on June 3rd. very exciting!

We had a small party at our house/backyard and it was a fun time with friends. We made flower cupcakes and a caterpillar with Izzy on it.  We had a great time, although her expression in this picture says to me...too. much. party. lol.
can we just eat these already?
Iz asked for a butterfly cake for her real birthday. The cake really reminded me of her! Full of life, has a special spark, colorful and happy.
We had a really nice low key morning the day of her birthday opening presents and playing at the park. Thank you to grandma and grandpa and Aunt Mel and Uncle Chris for the very generous gifts!
new matching jammies!
I had 2 of her presents hidden and notes that gave clues. She really liked that part. And it extended the present openings by a total of 2 extra minutes or so. lol.  she and her brother are speed present openers!
