last day of Pre-K

Today was izzy's last day of preschool at Lowell and her class had a party at the park to celebrate. She has made a few great girl friends this year- Lulu, Freya and Mya- and has really enjoyed school. Her favorite thing is still art- and comes home usually everyday with a drawing of our family. She has learned to write her name, and all of her classmates names this year. It's such a joy to see her excel in school (okay, it's only preschool, but still =))- I hope it continues for the years to come!
Here are a few pics from the morning. little iz is growin up!

I heart Chicago

A couple days before the half marathon graham and I talked about taking a one night trip to Chicago. After we booked our room there were signs from the universe telling us maybe we should reschedule (bodie waking up and getting sick)... But on we went. It was a short drive and the kids slept almost the whole way! It's always nice to have some quiet time with g in the car. When we reached our hotel bodie's tummy decided to empty again onto the floor- boo. Luckily we had new clothes and tons of wipes with us! We made it up to our room ( on the 34th floor) to discover the AC not working-(mid 90s outside) ack! Luckily g fiddled with it and got it working later that night! One of the things I'm learning with kids and with getting older- if things aren't exactly the way you thought or expected, or if things go wrong, just make the most of it and enjoy the time- or u will miss out on some great times.
After assessing bodies tummy situation we decided it was safe to leave the room and ventured out in downtown chicago. We only brought a single umbrella stroller and izzy had a massive blister on her foot so we took turns holding sweaty kids as we ooed and aahed at all the tall buildings and sights of the city. What a beautiful city.

We stopped by a Starbucks for a snack and ice waters, and wandered around to find trader joes for some dinner / next day snacks.

(iz wearing one shoe to protect the blister. About 4 people asked us if we knew she only had one shoe on as we walked around- lol)

iz enjoying the comfy bed

One of my favorite memories was in the evening after bodie was asleep and g, iz and I were watching tv in the hotel we opened up the blinds to see this amazing sight...

The city is so magical at night. We stood by the window pointing out different things and taking pictures- looking at the moon and stars. It looked so peaceful and quiet from up above, so in contrast to the hussle and noise of earlier in the afternoon.
The next day we ventured to the park to see "the bean" and then on to the children's museum.
Graham's ingenious idea of buying a "magical" box of tinkerbell bandaids worked and with four plastered over the wound we were ready to explore.
I loved the city. So many amazing buildings. I loved this walkway.

The best seat in town.

G and iz crossing a bridge to go see the bean.

Iz said- I love the big city. Small towns are so boring. Lol- i love the big city too iz.

And on to navy pier and the children's museum.
Dumb parent move #475- forgetting the double stroller.

Pier from museum. So cool.

Love.

The childrens museum was amazing.

Driving a digger.

Investigating.

Fishing.

Driving by wriggly field on the way home.

Biggest bummer of the trip was getting into a car accident on the way out of the city. Memorial day traffic- scratched side of car- so scary. Thankfully no one was hurt and our car was not more damaged. Feeling very blessed and again, another reminder to enjoy each moment as much as you can.
A short ride with sleeping children and we were safe at home once again.

Already looking forward to our next chance to go back to the windy city.
